Editor's note

Dewy is a finish, not a skincare result. The shine is product. The art is in placing it where light should sit and keeping it off where light shouldn't. Most people who attempt dewy and end up looking oily made the same two mistakes: they applied product everywhere, and they chose the wrong base. A tinted moisturiser with a glow primer underneath behaves differently in Atlanta in August than it does in London in November — and both of those look different again by hour four.

Other finish types

  • Matte
  • Skin-like
  • Soft glow

What 'dewy finish' actually means

Dewy finish describes a face that reads as luminous and hydrated — a controlled shine that suggests moisture rather than excess oil. It's achieved through product choices, placement, and the right base. Your skin doesn't have to be naturally glowing to get there.

Myth, meet fact

  • Myth: Dewy means no primer. Fact: A glow primer is specifically what creates the lit-from-within effect.
  • Myth: Dewy finish doesn't last in humid climates. Fact: What fails in humidity is the product selection, not the finish.
  • Myth: Dewy looks the same in photos as in person. Fact: Camera flash reads shine as flat white. Placement is everything for photography.

Format, by use case

Glow primer as the default foundation of the dewy look. Tinted moisturiser for light coverage days. Skin tint for sheer SPF days. Cushion compact for touch-ups. Highlighting drops applied sparingly to cheekbones. Dewy setting spray as the final lock step.
