Layering Vitamin C and SPF Correctly
Optimizing a morning routine requires understanding the absorption rates of active ingredients versus protective layers. Vitamin C serves as an antioxidant component, while SPF provides the final barrier against UV exposure.
Applying these in the correct sequence ensures that both products function as intended without compromising the stability or efficacy of the other. The following protocol outlines the precise order and the necessary pause times for effective application.
- Cleanse and dry skin. Begin with a clean canvas to remove residue from the previous night. Use a gentle cleanser and lukewarm water. Pat the skin completely dry with a clean towel, as damp skin can alter how subsequent products absorb.
- Apply vitamin C serum. Dispense three to four drops of vitamin C serum into your palm. Gently press the liquid into the skin of the face and neck using flat palms. Avoid tugging or pulling the skin during application.
- Seal with moisturizer if necessary. If your skin requires extra hydration, apply a lightweight moisturizer. If the vitamin C serum is formulated in a hydrating base, this step may be omitted. Allow the moisturizer to set for two minutes to prevent pilling.
- Measure and apply SPF. Use the two-finger method to ensure adequate coverage. Squeeze two full lines of SPF onto your index and middle fingers, then dot across the face. Smooth the product evenly across the skin until no white cast remains.
Order is functional; vitamin C goes under, SPF stays on top.
