How to Care for Your Lips Daily

Consistent exfoliation, hydration, and protection create healthy lips that need minimal maintenance.

Most lip problems are from doing too much, not too little—your lips function perfectly fine with just protection and basic moisture.

  1. Morning prep. Apply SPF lip balm before anything else touches your lips. The delicate skin here burns faster than your face and shows damage immediately.
  2. Gentle exfoliation. Use a soft toothbrush or lip scrub 2-3 times weekly, never daily. Over-exfoliating creates the cycle of peeling that makes you think you need more exfoliation.
  3. Layer hydration. Apply a plain lip balm, let it absorb, then add your color or gloss. This prevents color from settling into fine lines and keeps moisture locked in throughout the day.
  4. Evening treatment. Before bed, apply a thicker balm or overnight lip mask. Your lips repair themselves while you sleep, so give them something substantial to work with.
