Mastering the Emulsification of Cleansing Oil

Cleansing oil functions through a binary system: it begins as a solvent to break down surface-level buildup and requires water to transform into a rinseable emulsion. Many users fail to realize that the product is incomplete until it makes contact with water.

If the oil is wiped away before this chemical shift occurs, the residue remains on the skin. Proper emulsification ensures the product captures dirt and debris before washing away cleanly.

Follow these steps to ensure you are completing the process as intended by the product's formulation.

1. Apply to dry skin. Dispense the oil into dry, clean palms. Distribute the product evenly across your dry face, ensuring coverage over areas where buildup accumulates. The dry environment allows the oil to interact directly with makeup and sebum.
2. Massage in circles. Use your fingertips to perform gentle, circular motions across the entire surface of the skin. Apply light pressure to lift debris from the pores. Spend extra time around the nostrils and hairline.
3. Activate with water. Wet your hands with warm water and touch them to your face. The oil will immediately begin to turn milky or white as the emulsifiers react with the water. This phase is critical for loosening the oil-bound debris.
4. Refine the emulsion. Continue massaging your face while it is damp. The white, milky texture should become uniform across your skin. This step confirms the emulsification is total.
5. Rinse thoroughly. Rinse your face with lukewarm water until the water runs clear and no slippery residue remains. The product should dissolve entirely without leaving a heavy film. If a film persists, perform a secondary, lighter rinse.

The transition from oil to milk is the only indicator of a successful, complete cleanse.
