A Guide to Scalp Exfoliation

Accumulated product buildup and excess sebum can cause the hair to appear flat or feel heavy at the roots. A mechanical scalp scrub uses physical particulates to lift these surface-level obstacles. This process does not treat internal imbalances but addresses the external symptoms of oily hair.

Correct application is essential to ensure the scalp is cleansed without causing mechanical abrasion to the hair shaft. Follow this routine to manage oiliness while maintaining the integrity of the hair.

  1. Section the hair. Divide damp hair into four quadrants using a comb. This ensures the product reaches the scalp rather than coating the lengths of the hair. Work with clean, wet hair to facilitate even distribution.
  2. Apply and distribute. Apply a dime-sized amount of scrub to your fingertips, not your palms. Begin at the crown and work outward in small circular motions. Do not scrub aggressively; let the particulates do the work.
  3. Rinse thoroughly. Ensure every grain of the scrub is rinsed away. Residue left on the scalp can counteract the benefits of the treatment. Use lukewarm water and continue until the water runs clear.
  4. Condition the lengths. After the scrub, use a lightweight conditioner only on the mid-lengths and ends. Avoid the roots entirely to prevent adding weight back to the area you just cleared. Rinse thoroughly.
Mechanical exfoliation is a reset, not a daily necessity.
