How to Apply Self-Tanner on Your Legs Without Streaks

Exfoliate first, work in sections from ankle up, and blend immediately with circular motions.

Most people apply too much product and move too slowly โ€” you want just enough to create a thin, even layer that you can blend before it grabs the skin.

  1. Prep your skin. Shave at least 24 hours before application to avoid irritation. Exfoliate dry skin with a body scrub, paying attention to knees and ankles where product tends to build up. Your legs should be completely clean and dry.
  2. Start at your ankles. Squeeze tanner onto your palm and work on one leg at a time. Begin at your ankle and work upward in long, smooth strokes. The key is speed โ€” blend immediately before the product starts to set.
  3. Work in circular motions. After applying each section, go back over it with small circular motions to eliminate streaks. Pay extra attention to your knees, which absorb more product and can look patchy if you're not careful.
  4. Finish at the top. When you reach your thighs, use lighter pressure and less product since the skin is more sensitive here. Wash your palms immediately after finishing each leg to avoid orange palms.
