How to Apply Self-Tanner on Your Face
Mix self-tanner with your moisturizer, apply in thin layers, and blend carefully around hairline and jawline for natural-looking results.
The secret is treating it like skincare, not makeup—slow, intentional layers beat dramatic transformation every time.
- Prep your skin. Exfoliate gently with a washcloth or mild scrub 24 hours before application. Cleanse thoroughly and apply a light layer of moisturizer to dry areas like around your nose, eyebrows, and hairline to prevent uneven absorption.
- Mix and apply. Start with a 1:1 ratio of self-tanner to your regular moisturizer on a cosmetic sponge or clean hands. Apply in upward strokes from your neck up, working in small sections. Build coverage gradually rather than applying thick layers.
- Blend the edges. Use a barely damp makeup sponge to blend around your hairline, ears, and jawline. Pay extra attention to where your face meets your neck to avoid obvious lines.
- Wait and assess. Let the product develop for 4-6 hours before showering. Check for evenness and apply a second thin layer if needed after 24 hours.
