How to Care for Your Feet at Home

Good foot care means soaking, exfoliating, moisturizing, and maintaining your nails weekly.

Feet are the foundation of everything you wear—treating them like an afterthought shows in how you move through the world.

  1. Soak and soften. Fill a basin with warm water and soak your feet for 10-15 minutes to soften dead skin. Add Epsom salt if you want to reduce any swelling or soreness.
  2. Remove dead skin. Use a pumice stone or foot file on damp skin to gently remove calluses and rough patches. Work in circular motions and don't press too hard—you want smooth skin, not raw skin.
  3. Trim and shape nails. Cut toenails straight across, then round the corners slightly with a file. This prevents ingrown nails while keeping them neat and functional.
  4. Moisturize thoroughly. Apply a rich foot cream or body lotion, paying extra attention to heels and any dry areas. Skip the spaces between your toes to avoid creating moisture that breeds bacteria.
