How to Care for Your Feet Weekly
Soak, exfoliate, moisturize, and trim nails once a week to keep feet soft and healthy.
Most people ignore their feet until sandal season, but consistent weekly care prevents the dramatic emergency measures later.
- Soak in warm water. Fill a basin with warm water and soak feet for 10-15 minutes to soften skin and nails. Add Epsom salts if you have them, but plain water works perfectly fine.
- Exfoliate dead skin. Use a pumice stone or foot file on damp skin to remove calluses and rough patches. Work gently in circular motions, focusing on heels and balls of feet.
- Trim and shape nails. Cut toenails straight across to prevent ingrown nails, then smooth edges with a file. Keep nails short enough that they don't catch on socks.
- Moisturize thoroughly. Apply a thick foot cream or body lotion to damp feet, paying attention to dry areas like heels. Put on cotton socks afterward to lock in moisture overnight.
