How to Fix Dry Ankle Skin
Exfoliate weekly, moisturize daily with a thick cream, and protect from friction.
Dry ankles happen because we ignore them until they look like reptile skin, then panic—just make moisturizing part of your shower routine and move on.
- Gentle exfoliation. Use a body scrub or dry brush on ankles twice weekly in circular motions. Focus on areas where skin looks ashy or feels rough. This removes dead skin that blocks moisture absorption.
- Deep moisturizing. Apply a thick cream or balm to damp skin immediately after showering. Look for ingredients like ceramides, shea butter, or urea. The water helps lock in moisture while the cream creates a protective barrier.
- Nighttime treatment. Before bed, apply an extra layer of moisturizer to ankles and wear cotton socks. This intensive treatment works while you sleep and prevents moisture loss from sheets rubbing against skin.
- Friction protection. Identify what causes rubbing—tight boots, certain fabrics, or sitting positions. Switch to moisture-wicking socks and ensure shoes fit properly around the ankle bone.
