How to Care for Hair Follicles After Waxing

Keep follicles clean, cool, and moisturized for 24-48 hours to prevent irritation and ingrown hairs.

The best post-wax routine is boring: clean, cool, moisturize, repeat until your skin forgets what happened.

  1. Cool the area immediately. Apply a cold compress or ice wrapped in cloth for 10-15 minutes right after waxing. This reduces inflammation and closes the follicles, preventing bacteria from entering the open pores.
  2. Keep it clean and dry. Wash the area gently with lukewarm water and a mild, fragrance-free cleanser within a few hours. Pat dry completely and avoid touching the area with unwashed hands for the first 24 hours.
  3. Apply soothing treatment. Use aloe vera gel or a fragrance-free moisturizer with ingredients like chamomile or tea tree oil. Apply thin layers twice daily for the first 2-3 days to calm irritation and keep skin hydrated.
  4. Exfoliate after 48 hours. Once initial sensitivity passes, gently exfoliate 2-3 times per week with a soft scrub or dry brush. This prevents dead skin from trapping new hair growth and causing ingrowns.
