How to Smooth Rough Elbows at Home

Exfoliate dead skin with a body scrub, then moisturize immediately while skin is still damp.

Rough elbows are just proof you use your arms. Fix them like any other maintenance issue: regularly, not dramatically.

  1. Soften in the shower. Let warm water run over your elbows for a few minutes to soften the thickened skin. The moisture makes the next step more effective.
  2. Exfoliate with circular motions. Use a body scrub or sugar scrub in small circles on each elbow for 30 seconds. Focus on the roughest spots but don't scrub aggressively.
  3. Moisturize on damp skin. Pat elbows dry but leave them slightly damp, then apply a thick cream or body oil. The moisture helps lock in hydration where skin tends to be drier.
