How to Do a Detox Bath at Home
A proper detox bath combines Epsom salts with warm water and strategic timing to help your body release tension and impurities through gentle sweating.
Most people overthink detox baths with complicated recipes when salt, water, and timing do all the work.
- Set the temperature. Fill your tub with water that's warm but not scalding—around body temperature plus a few degrees. You want to encourage gentle sweating without shocking your system or dehydrating yourself.
- Add your salts. Pour in 1-2 cups of Epsom salts as the water runs. The magnesium helps muscles relax while drawing out excess fluids through your skin.
- Time it right. Soak for 12-20 minutes maximum. Your body will start sweating around the 10-minute mark—this is when the detox effect kicks in, but longer isn't better.
- Cool down properly. End with a lukewarm shower to rinse off the salts and close your pores. Follow immediately with water—you've lost fluids and need to replace them.
